What is ABA therapy and why is it effective for treating autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based approach designed to improve or modify specific behaviors in a structured and positive way. ABA therapy works by breaking down complex tasks into smaller, manageable steps. These steps are taught one at a time, building on each other to help children achieve larger goals, like functional communication or social interaction. Therapists use positive reinforcement, such as praise or favorite items, to encourage and reward progress as children master each step.
For children with autism, ABA therapy helps by using techniques like prompting and reinforcement to teach new skills and replace challenging behaviors with more appropriate ones. It’s not just about addressing problem behaviors—it’s also about building skills in areas like social interaction, reading, academics, communication, grooming, hygiene, fine motor coordination, and even practical tasks like cleaning a room or improving job readiness.
ABA therapy is widely recognized as the most effective treatment for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It’s recommended by trusted organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Surgeon General, major insurance providers, state health agencies, the American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. While there’s no single “cure,” ABA therapy is a proven method for helping children with autism grow, learn, and thrive.
ABA therapy tailored
to your family
At Butterfly Effects, we’ve been helping children and families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) since 2005 with our family-centered approach to ABA therapy. Our goal is to work hand-in-hand with families to create a path toward greater independence and joy for their child.
We know how important family is in a child’s life. That’s why we see you as a partner in the process—your insights and strengths guide the strategies we develop. Together, we’ll design individualized approaches that fit naturally into your child’s everyday environment, making it easier to create meaningful and lasting progress.
Rather than using one-size-fits-all programs, we collaborate with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your family’s specific needs and priorities. This means focusing on what matters most to you and your child, ensuring every step is meaningful and supports your family’s unique journey. At Butterfly Effects, we’re here to support you every step of the way!
Our approach can make a meaningful difference for your child and your whole family.

In-center
At Butterfly Effects, our in-center ABA therapy provides a structured and supportive space where your child can focus on learning and building important skills. In our centers, your child will have opportunities to interact with peers, practice social skills, and work on personalized goals—all in a caring and encouraging environment!
In-school
At Butterfly Effects, we work directly with schools and teachers to provide ABA therapy in the classroom. This support helps your child thrive in both academic and social settings. By being there during the school day, we can encourage positive behaviors, real-time learning, curriculum engagement, and making sure your child has the tools they need to independently succeed in the classroom.

We understand that parenting can be especially tough when challenging behaviors arise. Addressing these situations as they happen can help reduce stress for both you and your family. When left unaddressed, intense behaviors may become more difficult to manage, making daily life feel more overwhelming.
You might even find yourself avoiding outings or feeling isolated, especially if others don’t fully understand the challenges you’re facing. But you’re not alone—taking steps early on can make a big difference for your child and your family. We’re here to provide the support and guidance you need to navigate these moments with confidence. Together, we can create a path toward a brighter, more balanced future.
